Ximena Martinez
de Zorzi
Ximena Martinez de Zorzi is passionate about using her creative platform in art and fashion to draw attention to contemporary social problems, particularly issues faced by minorities. Her personal experiences and empathy provide her with profound insight and perspective, which is expressed through her work. Ximena explores topics that are critical of society and involve pain and trauma. As a result, her drawings and concepts often feature melancholy elements.
“I am inspired by Egon Schiele’s illustrations, Daniel Brice exploring the physicality and intellectual, the emotional resonance of colour, Antonio Berni and his work about social criticism, marginalization and oppression. Also, Leon Ferrari and his work dealing with issues of inequality and discrimination.”
Her preferred media is pen, oil pastels and watercolours, and Ximena describes her work as “free, confident and unafraid of challenging ‘perfect’ and ‘normal’ proportions or conventional drawing rules.”
Ximena has collaborated with fashion companies Swarovski, Tranoï and Ecole Lesage. She attended Parsons The New School of Design in Paris, France and graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Fashion Design degree. Ximena also attended Central Saint Martins art school in London, UK to study fashion drawing and fashion portfolio courses.
Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Ximena currently resides in Paris, France. She enjoys participating in art events and exhibitions throughout the city exhibiting her illustrations at Plateform Gallery and during Paris Fashion Week at Carrousel du Louvre. She also worked on Mel O’Callaghan’s performance / installation, Going over, Going under at the Paris art festival, Nuit Blanche.
