André Visser
André Visser (b. 1964) is an abstract painter and a creative director working in the international fashion industry. He is originally from the Netherlands and now spends his time living and working between Amsterdam and Havana. His international career in the fashion world and his cosmopolitan lifestyle provided him with exceptional first-hand experience in the world of design, trends, travel and art. André is also the owner of A|S Boutique Residence, a luxury boutique hotel concept and the owner of HAV, an international art gallery, both located in a Unesco World Heritage mansion in the heart of Old Havana, Cuba. He received his artistic training at the Academy of Arts in Rotterdam. Since graduation, André has nurtured his life long passion and appreciation for the abstract arts. He immersed himself in his artistic practice, quickly gaining recognition for his work which was rewarded with numerous exhibitions in Madrid and Paris, amongst others.
His perspective is shaped by a lifetime of travelling the world and by embracing urban metropolitan culture. André’s work embodies Eastern elements with European and American influenced expressionism that merges into paintings created through intuition and improvisation.
Shunning the structured design from the fashion industry that he knows so well, André firmly believes in channelling impulsive creativity and utilising his freedom of expression to create his energetic abstractions. He gives space to the power of the spiritual and physical movements that lead to large expressive abstract artworks.
Reevaluating traditional painting methods from different cultures and periods and using a vast range of tools and materials leads to this expressive and unique body of work. No narratives, titles or explanations are required since his art speaks a language of its own.
