Annette von der Bey
Annette von der Bey is a German artist whose creative practice focuses on painting. Her artwork is characterised by an overflowing richness in detail, designed to completely absorb the viewer. She loves the work of Flemish artists Piet Brueghel and Hieronymus Bosch. Like the old masters she is inspired by, Annette works using oil paints on canvas. Her exhibitions are immersive experiences, and she assembles her individual paintings in sequence to form installations that transform the physical space.
She was born in 1965 in Remscheid, Germany. Annette studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, and since graduating has lived and worked in the Düsseldorf area. She furthered her training as a master’s student under professor Fritz Schwegler and received grants from the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and the Eduard-Bargheer-Stiftung. Her work has been nominated for multiple art awards. She regularly exhibits in Germany and abroad, and has hosted exhibitions at the Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf, the Frauenmuseum Bonn and the Kunsthalle Luckenwalde among others. Annette also operates as an illustrator and designer, creating her jewellery collection (schmuck-von-der-bey.de) and collaborating with clients including Rosenthal Porcelain.
