James Asher

James Asher’s creative practice specialises in female figurative oil paintings. His mixed media works combine abstraction, realism and 3D objects attached to the canvas to create a balanced and evocative experience for his audience. James explains, “I like to incorporate real objects onto my canvas to give an added level of dimension and create a more vivid experience for the viewer.” His provocative motives aim to challenge the imagination and unsettle the mind. James hopes his work encourages the viewer to recognise the beauty in subjects that may be deemed as improper.

His lifelong relationship with art began early, and James started to draw and create from a young age. As a self-taught artist, he relies on his passion for art to let his soul guide his movements, and he developed his creative skills by attending workshops and seminars hosted by his favourite artists. James finds inspiration in the works of fellow artists Boris Vallejo, Casey Baugh, Chris Guest, Tyson Mcadoo and Agnes Cecile.

James was born in South Africa and currently resides in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He began his professional painting career in 2017 and is currently collaborating on a new visual arts project with Sud, a Dutch photographer. His original pieces are collected worldwide and are particularly popular with clients in the Netherlands and across the United States.
