Gisella Biondani’s artwork balances the fluid nature of watercolour with the essential structure of calligraphy. It results in interweaving forms which chase and complete each other, adding vitality to her fresh and harmonious compositions. 

Her research is focused on the abstraction of form. Each element in her compositions is brought to life by the fluidity of watercolour and the lightness of ink strokes. The calligraphic action is gestural, expressive; with a hidden meaning, hinted at by the letters running through the composition.

The spontaneous approach to her work was perfected during years of study and experimentation when training as an illustrator and graphic designer. Her artistic practice merges the discipline provided by the design elements and principles with her personal poetic interpretation.

Gisella has participated in collective exhibitions and has been featured in numerous visual arts publications. She has an active teaching schedule and leads numerous workshops in Europe and the United States.
