Heewon Cho
Seoul native, Heewon Cho specialises in landscape and abstract paintings. She is a self-taught fine artist who creates her artwork using unique oil painting techniques she has developed.
‘’My representative work is the abstract painting series of ‘Space Flower’, in which five flowers and dizzying backgrounds are harmonised, and the story continues according to each meaning of the flower. The series begins with the idea that we are like dust in a vast universe. But the dust is beautiful and shiny like flowers when we watch it closely and value its existence.”
She majored in industrial design at university. While studying, she participated in two exhibitions, which featured illustrations produced with watercolour and coloured pencils. After graduation, she worked as a designer and content planner, but it wasn’t long before she resumed painting.
Heewon finds inspiration in young people, especially her friends and acquaintances. Her abstract pieces, in particular, are designed to help her contemporaries visualise thoughts and feelings relevant to their generation. She hopes her painting transcends the primary audience and is a source of comfort and clarity to people of all ages.
