Amogh Katyayan
Amogh Katyayan was born and raised in the foothills of the Himalayas in India. He moved to Canada and now resides in Calgary, Alberta.
His creative practice is self-taught, and for several years Amogh experimented with various styles and techniques until he found his artistic niche. He produces his artwork through a combination of acrylic paint, gesso and coloured pastels.
Amogh approaches each new work with an open mind, free of pre-determined ideas or concepts and compares his painting technique to looking for images in the clouds. His process begins with a blank canvas. As Amogh layers on the initial coat of paint to create texture and colour, he starts to see shapes and figures emerge from the paint. Inspired by these initial images, Amogh’s paintings develop and depict stories, issues, and experiences to which others can relate.
