Sophie Clements
Sophie Clements is interested in mark-making, abstract shapes and vivid colours. She graduated from Birmingham City University, where she achieved an MA in textile and surface design. Her course focussed on teaching print design for a multitude of surfaces and applications. This specialised study enabled Sophie to develop her impressive design and drawing skills. She has designed garments for fashion designers, independent brands, and live catwalk shows. Her experience also includes collaborations with textile designers, designing for trade shows and fundraising initiatives.
Sophie moved to Pitlochry in the Scottish Highlands to work at House of Bruar, a high-end country clothing store. Working in the ladieswear department gave Sophie experience in sales, marketing, and extensive product knowledge. Sophie says,
“I loved working at House of Bruar and my team. After 18 months, I was encouraged to take up my painting and drawing again; it would be a shame for the skills to go to waste. I continued to paint as a hobby, but during this time of lockdown, I moved to Glasgow. I had time and space to do more and wanted to actively pursue my true passion for art. Therefore I have been focusing on defining myself as a creative, developing ideas, and working hard towards knowing myself as an artist.”
