Coco Maya
Coco Maya is a contemporary fine artist who loves the beauty of deconstruction. She was born in the southwest of France and lived for a few years in Paris before moving to California and choosing Los Angeles as her new home.
In her mid 20’s she was diagnosed with early osteoporosis; her bones were breaking to the point she ended up in a wheelchair. She discovered a passion for painting during her hospital stays. Coco painted in her bed, covering her white sheets with pastel stains and paint drippings. The nurses often visited her bedroom to enjoy the progress of her artwork.
Coco says, “I healed myself with my own weapons: meditation and visualization techniques. It worked! In the beauty of deconstruction, there is a deepness in asymmetry where a being can hide sometimes.”
From the broken bones to the broken faces, her art reveals her journey.
