Igor Trokhymenko

Igor Trokhymenko’s creative journey began with the realisation that art was a means for him to rediscover joy. He began painting in 2016 and was quickly captivated by watercolour. “It is one of the most difficult techniques in painting, but also one of the most charming: watercolour works always attract my attention for their lightness, transparency and maximum closeness to the essence of life - with the uniqueness of each moment and full of light and colour.”

He was born in 1967 in Kharkiv, Ukraine, and since 2001 he has lived in Kyiv. Igor gathers inspiration from his surroundings, spending time in nature to paint En Plein air and observing the city’s inhabitants in a style he calls ‘Citylandscape’. “One of my favourite activities is walking down streets, finding a cosy corner at a table in a cafe and watching life around me - as the sun illuminates the harmonious line of the urban landscape; how bizarre shadows are formed, similar to fairy-tale characters; how slowly and quietly the old couple communicates, carefully supporting each other; how sensitively and gently the newlyweds kiss, regardless of the people around them; how cheerfully and cheerfully the baby screams, just enjoying life… And often desire comes to snatch this clot of life and transfer it to paper with watercolours, because it is for me and embodies life - unique, colourful, transparent…”

His education includes degrees in economics from V. Karazin National University of Kharkiv and the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, where he studied jurisprudence. Igor has enjoyed a successful career as a lawyer for 18 years and as a manager at a private firm for the past five years.

His works are in private collections in Ukraine, Italy, Slovenia, Cyprus, Denmark and Germany. He has participated in over 20 exhibitions and festivals in Italy, Ukraine, Slovenia and Romania.
