Kaylin Skye
Kaylin Skye Mirel’s artwork is vibrant and full of life. She believes colours are an essential tool to stir emotions, and she creates her paintings to encourage the viewer to meditate on the work to reveal its meaning.
“My work is heavily based around emotion and feeling, not just my feeling but the energies around me and how I absorb them. I have an innate desire for the observer to search inside themselves and establish their thoughts and feelings about what I create. I invite the individual to view themselves within the art, dissecting and asking questions about it. The art I create is as much theirs to feel as it is mine to create.”
Kaylin is a self-taught artist influenced by Wassily Kandinsky, Claude Monet, Ben Nicholson, Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock, particularly his abstract expressionism work.
“I use all mediums and a vast array of colour combinations to evoke emotion, though I usually gravitate towards oil paint. I love that colour can translate to feelings to mimic reactions, while the piece itself can display undemanding involvement of life or a heavy absence of happiness.”
Originally from Los Angeles, California, she relocated to New York City to attend college. She is minoring in art history to learn the origins and evolution of artistic disciplines. Living in New York City provides endless opportunities for inspiration, and Kaylin strives to see the art in everything around her.
