DOMINIQUE

Dominique Latoel (b.1980) is a Moluccan artist with a desire to express his heritage through art. He is Alifuru, (the Indigenous people of the Moluccan Lease Islands), and his roots have a great significance to DOMINIQUE. It’s important to keep his culture alive and share it with the world. The Alifuru are strongly connected with nature and the spiritual realm, where symbols are a significant element. Ancient, Indigenous signs tell stories like a compass. DOMINIQUE’s art mesmerizes the audience to decipher these stories and inspires them to apply them in the present.

Educated in graphic design, DOMINIQUE has left his footprints at Nike, Patagonia and other global brands. But his desire to express his emotions and explore them on a deeper level continues to develop. After spending a decade in Amsterdam and New York City, DOMINIQUE relocated to Deventer, The Netherlands. From his studio, DOMINIQUE creates paintings, jewellery and garments. He has stretched murals from Amsterdam to Curaçao to Bali and attended the European Street Art Festival, Stockholm. DOMINIQUE participated In the Presence of Absence at Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2020), and he became an ambassador for the Moluccan Future Foundation.
