Stella El
Stella El’s paintings depict idyllic, joyful scenes, and her work intends to capture and share these transient moments with the viewer. Everyday life experiences and the pleasure of beautiful scenery and colours serve as her inspiration. “I enjoy painting a subject until it becomes familiar. It gives a sense of completion by exploring the possibilities. My brush strokes are intuitive and spontaneous. Currently, my focus is seascapes as they repeat a feeling of joy for many of us.”
She earned a fashion design degree from Art Institute of California and textile design degree from FIDM Los Angeles. Her former career as a textile designer informs her self-taught painting practice, particularly her colourways which are selected to complement her subject matter and produce a sense of depth and movement. She favours the fast-drying qualities of acrylic paint, which lends itself to working with quick, instinctive brush strokes.
Her artwork is featured in art fairs and welcomed into private collections. Raised in Hawaii, she currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
