Thank you for taking the time to speak with us today Francisco, we’re looking forward to hearing more about your creative process and how you became developed your skills and began your career as a 3d and traditional character animator and artist. 

The Shanghairen aims to showcase creative visions of Shanghai. It's inspired by the iconic covers of The Parisianer and The Tokyoiter. The project was first introduced to us by Drawn Volume.3 artist, Xuni Gong who designed a beautiful cover for the project. We spoke to founder Benoit Petrus about The Shanghairen and he walks us through some of his favourite pieces.

Painter Dzintar Kalnin produces work in a figurative expressionist style. He aims to produce art that results in ‘making invisible and insensitive things visible and meaningful’. His creative practice is heavily influenced by the concept of duality. Light and darkness is a theme throughout his body of work. We spoke with Dzintar about his creative process and the message he seeks to convey through his work.

 Kajsa Råsten is an illustrator, animator and storyteller from Sweden. We are thrilled to feature her work in Pictoria 1 and 2. Alongside her work in animation and illustration, Kajsa is deeply passionate about promoting equality in the motion graphics industry.  We joined Kajsa for a virtual Swedish fika to find out more about her mission, and learn what we can do to help.

Temarius Walker is a Concept Artist and Illustrator, currently working in San Francisco, United States. Temarius has enjoyed a successful career in the games and entertainment industry, as well as founding his own creative practice. We sat down with Temarius to get a closer look at his inspirations, influences and motivations. We’re excited to be featuring Temarius and his work in Drawn Volume.3 Leaders in Contemporary Illustration (out July 2019)

Rebecca George is a Contemporary Mid-Career Painter who has maintained an active professional studio in Chicago, IL since 1993. Her work has evolved along a spectrum of figure-narratives to abstraction, focusing heavily on material and application method. The surfaces of George’s paintings are highly attended to with saturated, gestural compositions that are continuously pushing into new territory. Her influences include Willem DeKooning, Helen Frankenthaler and Paul Gauguin. She maintains a rigorous exhibition and studio practice and is represented by The Art House Gallery. Her work is collected worldwide and she is well-published. She holds a BFA from Maryland, Institute, College of Art and MFA in Painting and Drawing from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

HIBRID was established in 2014 by designer Courtney Shelton. It is a design space with a passion for a variety of design fields including hand-lettering, fashion, interior design, illustration, pattern design and more. HIBRID focuses primarily on hand-lettering and has produced a number of collaborations with brands such as Collective Ex, Lou & Grey, May Designs, SewKC, Regas Studio, and more.

“Myste is a sans serif typeface inspired from the classical grotesques. A distinctive feature of Myste is the "condensed style" mixed with a classical grotesque.
Designed during my studies at HEAD Geneva, I had the opportunity to create a Myste typeface that is made from wood for letterpress printing."

Jane Park ( 박재인 ) is a Korean-Canadian artist with a BFA in textiles from the Rhode Island School of Design.

She is a maker of tangible objects, bringing back the attention towards the process of slow making. She discovers creativity in discipline, and finds liberation in rendering her visual diary into tactile wovens.

Jane shares an in-depth look into her creative practice and explains the method she uses to produce her woven artworks and how this is a meditative process for her as an artist. Read on to find out more!

Liza Donovan is a Graphic Designer and artist living in Charlotte, NC. She has always been a passionate art lover and project enthusiast. Not to be discouraged by her very first drawings of gross anatomical displacement, where arms grew out of heads, she honed her technique only to find that arms CAN grow out of heads. Albert’s work focuses on the use of illustration and lettering as a single visual language where both interact and express themselves at the same level.
He has been invited as a speaker in several events and his work has been shown and issued in numerous exhibitions and publications, as well as awarded by major design institutions such as Art Directors Club and Communication Arts. Recently, he’s also been selected by The Type Directors Club as one of the Ascenders 2018.

Virginie Kypriotis is a French artist currently living and working in Paris.  After spending several years working in the animation industry as an art director she evolved a desire to develop a more personal approach to expression within her illustrations. 

Her trademark style is often accompanied by busy images, with lots of odd characters and various stories coming together, leaving the viewer with many details to discover.

 Fernando Sala Soler is a graphic designer and illustrator currently residing in the Mediterranean town of Jávea, Spain. Fernando’s creative practice encompasses a range of design and illustration projects including logo designs, editorial illustrations as well as textile and apparel design for both clients and his personal brand.  We spoke to Fernando about his work, and he shares his top tips for artists seeking to create their own merchandise.
