RAPID FIRE QUESTIONS: NIK NEVES
Nik Neves is an illustrator who lives between Berlin, Germany and Porto Alegre, Brazil. As a result, travel is a significant influence on his work. We were delighted to feature Nik's art in Pictoria Volume.1 and we caught up with him to find out what he’s working on today.
Nik’s clients include an impressive roster of publishers including, Taschen, Gestalten, Lonely Planet Magazine, National Geographic, Rolling Stone, Vogue Magazine, Le Monde, Descobrir Catalunya, Strapazin, Playboy and Runners.

How would you describe your work?
My work is a room for discoveries and experiences, always open to the new.
How do you go about creating your artwork? Do you prefer to work digitally or with traditional media?
I love both medias, they complete and dialogue with each others.
What are you working on at the moment?
A children's book about classic music, a world map, animations for a spirits company and some personal work in my free time.
Who or what are the top five inspirations for your work?
Music, comics, literature, travel and artists that change from time to time.
What's one resource every artist, illustrator or designer should know about?
Art museums, there's no better way to understand art in its wide range of possibilities.
What is the most valuable lesson you've learned during your time working in the creative industries?
The work must be fresh and done fast, even if you repeat it over and over until you find that spontaneity.
What is the hardest challenge you have faced in your career, and how did you overcome it?
Long and extensive projects were hard for me until I realized it was just a matter of approaching them as a series of short assignments.
What are your professional goals for the next year?
To discover something new in my work.
