Rowina Jorna

Dutch designer Rowina Jorna says, “My goal is to become the best media designer that I can be. I want to combine the online and offline world, or at least, try to be a bridge between them.” She believes that a combination of digital and analogue techniques furthers the opportunity of the project for the artist and client. She is proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, and Photoshop.

Her client work encompasses printing projects as well as websites and apps. Colour is integral to her aesthetic, and she carefully considers the emotional response of the colour palettes she uses in her work.

Rowina currently resides in The Netherlands and is a student of Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen. Her academic background includes a training degree in media and graphic design and is currently studying for her Batchelor’s degree in communication and multimedia design, with a specialism in interaction design. She is especially proud of Follow Me, a children’s book project produced in collaboration with a school in Denmark. The team created the book in its entirety from initial sketches to the physical production. The book was designed to be enjoyed by refugee children aged 4-8 who are currently living in Denmark and The Netherlands.

“I let myself be inspired by the assignment that I am working on at the time. I will search and be inspired by styles that suit the client’s wants and needs, and what suits the target audience that you want to reach in each separate location. But in general, I really love the work of Banksy and Andy Warhol. I think you can be inspired by anything really. Not just other artists. In general, I am inspired by people who are not afraid to speak up, people who place questions by the way we do things, who are innovative and think: ‘’how can we do this better?’’ People who like to push the limits and are not afraid to stand for what they believe in, like Malala Yousafzai, Whoopi Goldberg or Brené Brown.”
