az is a Japanese illustrator who aims to depict the strength and beauty found in individuals and relationships. At university, she studied the transition of fear in Japanese horror shojo-manga between 1950 and 1975. She is currently studying at Parsons School of Design.
Alongside her freelance creative practice, her work experience includes a six-year stint as a product manager at a Japanese IT company. She has produced illustration books, and her work has featured in Japanese exhibitions and shops. She prefers using digital tools to create her work and is especially interested in character design. Her inspirations often come from fashion, flowers, jewellery, food - all her favourite things.
az is eager to challenge new ideas and is always looking for opportunities to develop her skill set.
