Nasim Abaeian

Illustrator Nasim Abaeian was born in Isfahan, Iran in 1980. Nasim spent her childhood in Genova, Italy surrounded by the artistic ambience and an environment full of inspiration.

She is continuously looking for ideas and inspirations to create narratives and stories to illustrate. Her inspirations are derived from simple everyday life and all that she sees around her, from nature, people on the metro, pets, ornaments on carpets and antiques.

Feminine symbolism and intense emotions are almost always the two principal elements of her pieces. The rest is either random or precise play with forms, lines and colours.

In 2003 she earned a bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication from the American University of Sharjah, UAE. After graduation, she headed to the United States to complete her master’s degree in Illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

In addition to her freelance practice, Nasim is also an experienced teaching professional. Following five years of teaching Art and Design at Zayed University, Dubai, she moved to Toronto where she resides today, living her artistic dream.

Nasim is an active member of the creative community. She is currently a sessional faculty at OCAD University, Toronto. She is also a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and also works as a freelance illustrator and art instructor.
