Isabelle Poirier (Izzy)

Isabelle Poirier (Izzy) is a graphic artist based in Ottawa, Canada. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Arts in 2011, specialising in Photography and Painting.

Poirier has always been interested in portraits and enjoys experimenting with colours. She started to paint portraits while she was completing her undergraduate. She would use patches of colours in order to sculpt her subject’s faces. Recently, she started using the same technique in her vectorial illustrations. Finding highlights and shadows and turning them into shapes, her illustration takes on a very painterly style. Poirier also challenges the limits of realism while maintaining her kitsch aesthetic with a combination of naive and highly detailed rendering. “To achieve this aesthetic, I sometimes create my illustrations using the touchpad of my laptop, like I’m finger painting.”

Poirier is the founder and lead designer of ip design; a studio focused on art direction and branding. ip design has a distinctly modern aesthetic and is characterised by their bold, adventurous use of colour and artistic approach to developing highly conceptual creative solutions. ip design’s mission is to create sophisticated visual narratives and rich brand stories that engage her client’s target markets.
