Casandra Grullon
Casandra Grullon is an illustrator and comic book artist, currently residing in New York City. Her work portrays a light-hearted antidote to the reality of living in a big city. “I feel that the world needs more soft, warm things, and I try to create that with my illustrations and comics.”
Her creative journey began at a young age when her father introduced her to comics and the works of Studio Ghibli. Since then Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, co-founders of the studio have been her biggest inspirations. Emily Carroll and Rumiko Takahashi have influenced her work as a comics artist.
“Comics became my medium of choice because it felt natural to me. I am better at telling stories through drawings than I ever was with words.” In 2015 she graduated from The School of Visual Arts with a BFA in cartooning and founded her freelance practice, focussing on comics and illustration. Casandra’s work has featured in several anthologies, including The Wayward Sisters Anthology, and she also illustrated Kristen Enos’s Active Voice series. She has exhibited at The School of Visual Arts - Beautiful Losers (2014) and at the Women In Comics Convention, Brooklyn (2018).
“Although I am evolving as an artist and person, my work will always come from the heart.”
