Caries wGLi
Caries is a Hong Kong based comic book artist and illustrator.
After spending his formative years drawing, Caries went on to study at LiPace of Hong Kong Open University where he undertook the Commercial Comic Programme.
Inspiration for his work is fed by comic book artist Andy Szeto. He also finds inspiration in his surrounding, “I love to use the Hong Kong environment as a background for my comics. I usually have a hidden Hong Kong style brush-stroke in all of my artwork. As a child, I used to watch and read many Hong Kong based comics and this has stayed with me over the years. The Hong Kong style has had a great impact on my work.”
Currently, Caries is working on projects that bring together elements from comics and computer games by taking classic comic book visual language and combining it with animation and ramifying the overall experience.
Caries is also working on a personal comic book project titled Death of the Producer. Unsurprisingly, the story takes place in Hong Kong and is centred around the movie industry and unravels stories of the creative industry in the city.
