Melissa (Rollo) Capaletti
Melissa Capaletti grew up in Bel Air, Md with 5 older siblings. She spent many hours studying the illustrations in her picture books, and trying to copy the cover art from the Sweet Valley Twins book series. Since then, the budding artist dreamed of illustrating books one day. Fortunately for her, her high school had an excellent art program. She started getting commissions for photorealistic portrait drawings at the age of 16. Her art teacher became her mentor, and encouraged her to pursue art school. She attended Maryland Institute College of Art, where she earned her BFA in illustration. The artist worked as a freelance artist painting murals in Maryland local hospitals, college universities and local businesses. Other works include calendar art, children’s poster art, and the children’s book, “The Shell Beach kids” published in 2008.
Many of Melissa’s illustrations are influenced by musical lyrics, poems, quotes, and her love for nature and fitness. She labels herself as an extrovert stuck with an introvert’s mind. Her philosophy is that once one truly knows and is comfortable with their true self, life starts falling into place.
Mothering a daughter in 2014 has been the inspiration for her children’s illustrations, and is now happily continuing to build her portfolio in a freer, more energetic style than prior. Illustrating more books and self-improvement art are next on Melissa’s agenda.
