Maece Seirafi
Maece Seirafi is the founder and creative director behind MSD Studio, based in Los Angeles. Her team focuses on branding, creative strategy, calligraphy and lettering.
Born in San Francisco, Maece grew up in Damascus, Syria where her love of calligraphy, art, poetry was cultivated. After completing her high school diploma in 2001 she moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue her studies in graphic design at Otis College of Art and Design. Lettering, calligraphy, and type illustration were a strong central theme throughout her work. She combines her love of letterforms with cultural motifs such as proverbs and poems. Her love of letterforms and typography furthered her interest to pursue her MFA at the Graphic Design program at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in 2007. Upon completion of her MFA in Graphic Design from CalArts in 2010, Maece continues to explore the nuances of Latin and non-Latin type and how bilingual identities could further develop into various cultural projects and surface applications. She is an winning designer and an avid lecturer who enjoys curating exhibits and conducting workshops.
