Lise Bye Kjeldsen
Place of birth: Aarhus, Denmark.
Currently living in: Copenhagen, Denmark.
Train, bus, bike, or other: Bike most definitely. We all bike in Denmark, all the time and everywhere. The bikes rule the traffic.
What’s the most important object in your studio? My sketchbook, computer, camera and tablet. I need these objects for almost everything I create and design. Normally I will sketch a lot by hand and then transfer my drawings into the computer. The sketching part plays an important role in my creative process.
Paper or plastic? Paper of course.
Favourite project you have produced so far? My favourite project so far is my BA project where I made a book of portraits describing and commenting on our selfie-culture. The visual language was a combination of surreal photography and illustration.
What are you working on right now? Right now, I’m working on a photographic visualization of a book that is being turned into a gum commercial. It’s challenging and a lot of fun, I get to work with a range of pastels and to make graphic design and illustrations out of candy.
Favourite food? My favourite food is ratatouille with pasta. I could eat that every day I think.
Coffee or tea? I love tea, it’s my favourite drink. That’s why I want to live in a cottage in the UK.
What’s your earliest creative memory? As a very young girl in kindergarten I remember I was drawing a lot of princesses. So, it seems the obsession with drawing got hold on me from a very early age.
How do you prefer to spend your mornings? I prefer peace and quiet for a start and not talking too much. I like just to be sitting and waking up eating my breakfast and drinking my tea. Normally I will watch the news while I do that.
