British surface pattern designer Chase Scott is interested in combining traditional illustration methods with the opportunities presented by digital media. Among his best-known pieces are those that comprise his “Pride” collections in which he uses a colour palette inspired by the LGBT rainbow flag to create a series of vibrant illustrations. His methods characteristically involve using a black ink fountain pen to create an illustration and then digitizing the image for subsequent colorization and repeat pattern construction. He draws his inspiration from the colour palettes found in the natural world and the modern 20th century abstract artists Mondrian, Pollock and Kandinsky. Scott graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2007 and in 2014 founded the interior furnishings company, CLAOS. Scott’s designs have been featured in World of Interiors and House & Garden magazines.
